Only in Utah...

Submitted as actual answers to a 6th grade math test:

1. Suppose that your mom gives you $20 to go to the school supplies store. The state charges 6% sales tax on supplies. You need to buy the following items: pencils $1.29, notebook binder $5.99, paper $3.49, and high-lighter pens $2.35.

a. How much will the supplies cost? Show your work.
Answer: $13.90

b. Will you have enough money left to buy your favorite lunch that costs %5.39? Explain.
Answer: $.39 what's left. So you can buy the school supplies and lunch, but my mom would never give me a $20 bill to spend. Just like that, I'd have to do savings and tithing, so I'd get to spend $6 so I couldn't do it if it was me. Somebody else, yes.
