Insurance Battle

So I broke my leg in June. We have been getting several medical statements/bills in the mail.

Approximately:
ER-1300
1st Ambulance-1300
2nd Ambulance-1700
6 Day Hospital Stay and Surgery: 54,000
PT-1000

So we are close to 60,000 dollars in medical bills. But I keep telling myself I am so glad we have good insurance.

And usually we do, but for some reason they are not wanting to pay these bills.
They disputed both ambulance rides. They paid for the ER visit minus our copay. They came around and paid the ambulance bills minus the copays. They have only covered about half of the PT. But I got a bill in the mail today saying that insurance hasn't paid anything on 54,000 bill so it is now our responsibility. I have gotten several phone calls from the insurance, I had to send them forms about my accident, I sent them copies of the x-rays. But for some reason they aren't wanting to cover this. We don't have that kind of money to pay this. I guess I will be talking to the insurance again and again and again!!!! I will probably make Jeremy do it because every time I talk to them I cry.

So far out of pocket we have already paid about 2,000. I am sure we are going to be paying more a lot more. I just wish the insurance would pay what they are supposed to and not make us go through this horrible process of trying to get them to pay.

Only in Utah...

Submitted as actual answers to a 6th grade math test:

1. Suppose that your mom gives you $20 to go to the school supplies store. The state charges 6% sales tax on supplies. You need to buy the following items: pencils $1.29, notebook binder $5.99, paper $3.49, and high-lighter pens $2.35.

a. How much will the supplies cost? Show your work.
Answer: $13.90

b. Will you have enough money left to buy your favorite lunch that costs %5.39? Explain.
Answer: $.39 what's left. So you can buy the school supplies and lunch, but my mom would never give me a $20 bill to spend. Just like that, I'd have to do savings and tithing, so I'd get to spend $6 so I couldn't do it if it was me. Somebody else, yes.

Dressing Up As...

After church yesterday the kids started being really silly and dressing up in other people's clothes. Then they decided that we need to take pictures.

So here is Garrett dressed as Olivia. (I love Garrett's smile here)
Devin as Jeremy Shaving.
Garrett as Robin and Olivia as Jeremy shaving.
Devin as Jeremy, (but with his hat on backwards) which is so cute.
Garrett as Jeremy wearing his suit coat and shoes and BYU hat.
I love my kids are so silly and funny plus they were all getting along.

Bouncy Ball

Garret and Olivia both have these bouncy balls that they got for Christmas a couple years ago that they don't use very much anymore. Well, Devin got one out and just started bouncing on it. He was doing really good.(Mostly). I was impressed. I didn't know he know how to bounce correctly on the bouncy ball.

Lip Gloss

So I was helping Garrett in the kitchen one morning and I hear my blow dryer come on. I know Olivia is down stairs, so it can only be one person....DEVIN.
I go back to the bathroom and he is blowing his hair. But what was not really funny,he had gotten my lip gloss and went ahead and helped himself. He painted his face with my Mary Kay expensive lip gloss. He was so proud of himself.

Miss Sassy

I asked Olivia to do something and she didn't really want to, and she pulled this face. I already had the camera out so I took a picture. She really didn't like that I took her picture. But hey she is wearing a cute outfit.

More PT

I have been going to Physical Therapy twice a week for a while now. I had PT on Tuesday and my range of motion was 120 on my knee. Which is the best that is has been for a while. Good to actually be making progress.

Today I went back to PT and it was not quite back up to 120. Today in PT was an hour and half. He did a few extra exercises that I don't normally do. One of the exercises he put a weight around my leg and told me to just let the leg dangle with weight and then slightly sway my leg. It doesn't sound too bad right. But it was so painful. I could just feel it pulling. When he took off the weight it hurt too. This was the third exercise that he did with me. So all the other exercises of the day just hurt and I was tired. So for the first time in a long time I had tears in my eyes at PT.

So here is the rundown of PT

1. Use heat to warm it up
2. Knee bends with the strap
3. Do straight leg raises with weights
4. Stand and swing the leg to front, side and back sets of 10 of each direction
5. Stand and do knee bends 3 sets of 15
6. Have the Therapist come a rub on the leg
7. Have the therapist push and bend the leg
8. Sit on the edge of the table with weights and let the leg dangle for 5 mintues
9. leg pushes on a machine
10. Sit on the stool and do do laps up and down the hallway.
11. Swats using a ball behind my back
12. Mini squats
13. Stand on a balancing thing and tilt back and forth for 3 sets of a minute each
14. Ride the Bike for 10 minutes
15. Get back on the table for ice and electric stimulation on the leg.

So I had to hire a young woman from our neighborhood to come and watch the kids because Jeremy was out of town. I come home sore and tired and I still have things to do but I just can't seem to make myself do it.

Something about a sleeping baby

The other morning I came out of my room and found Devin snoozing in my chair. I don't know how long he had been there but he just looked so peaceful and cute.

Last Weekend

Last Weekend we went camping again. Jeremy's friend was nice enough to let us use her camper again. We did the usual s'mores but for dinner we gave the kids hot dogs. Well Livvy ate a roasted hot dog with a bun, Devin ate just the roasted hot dog and Garrett ate just the bun. Jenn made us tin foil dinners with hamburger, potatoes and carrots. It was so GOOD! So much better than hot dogs. We didn't get to the campsite until late. So we didn't end up eating dinner until around 9 o'clock by the time the coals were hot enough to cook the tin foil dinner.

Also this time, Jeremy decided that he wanted to bring a hammock up camping. He has fond memories of sleeping in a hammock. There were some perfect trees to hang the hammock. Jeremy and the kids loved playing on the hammock. I didn't get in it. I didn't want to accidentally fall while trying to get in or out of the hammock.

We also went exploring again and we went and found a Geocache that was near the campsite that was located at an old cemetery. The kids love looking for Geocache, it is a fun treasure hunt. I stayed in the car when it was close enough to go looking for it because you had to walk up a hill, over some water, and under a fence to get to the spot. I am not quite up to those types of adventures. But Garrett was so excited that he found the "treasure" He got a little puzzle and Livvy got a necklace. They left a car and a dog leash.

It is nice to have some family time together, even if they do wake up before six in the morning.

Devin

Devin has it made. He has now convinced both his brother and sister to give him piggyback rides.

Devin also got a haircut. As you can tell, he was really in need of one.

Garrett got a haircut too.

Cute Devin Stories:
I wanted to take his picture so he thought it would be funny to put the toy in his mouth for the picture.

We were looking at a book with some pictures of rocks. Devin wanted to count the rocks
The 1st time he counts the rocks: one, two, three, four, five, e-i-e-i-0
The 2nd time he counts the rocks: one, two, three, four, five, eenny, minny, miny, moe.

This morning Devin woke up wet from his diaper. Jeremy says, "Devin your clothes are wet." Devin says, "Yep, the sprinkler got me."

Devin also has quite the vocabulary. He bumped into my leg and I said, "OW" He gave me a hug and said "I sorry, it was accident."

Using a Cane

My Physical Therapist has had me walking on around the house on one crutch. He suggested that I might want to get a cane. I was very reluctant to get a cane because I am 32. I am so sick of my crutches. So we out today to look for a cane. I wanted it to be cool looking.
So if I have to use a cane I guess one like this is okay. It is very pretty.

Plus my children like to play with it. Well Olivia and Devin does. Garrett thinks it looks to girly.

Naked Boy

Devin sometimes does not like to have a diaper on. He likes to run around with nothing on. He sometimes will even go poop on the potty if I give him chocolate chips after. The other day he was taking a nap. I went and checked on him and this is how I found him. I just couldn't resist so I went and took a picture. And to post the picture I covered up his little white butt.

Homework

So school is back in session. We are in the 2nd week of school. I think I forgot how much work it is to get all the homework done. Now I have 2 kids who need to do reading every night, math homework every night, plus spelling. So doing all this and juggling this with working and Physical Therapy, and after school things. I go to bed exhausted!
