New Suit

Garrett got a new suit at Christmas.    Since Christmas Garrett has had a growth spurt.  His new church pants and shirt don't fit.   He has also grown out of a lot of his other clothes as well.  So he got some new pants size 10/12 and new shirts.   He looks so grown up and handsome in his new suit.

Giant Water Balls

Giant Water Balls at different stages of growth.  I think it is interesting that when they are growing they are not spheres but look like brains.  We added coloring to make the balls different colors.
The kids had a lot of fun watching them grow, it takes about 24 hours for them to grow to their biggest.  Then they like playing with them.

Rapelling

Jeremy went with his venture scouts rapelling.   This will be one of the activities that they do when they go on their high adventure scout trip this summer.  They will be hiking, rapelling, and biking.

Jeremy said he enjoyed it but when he was walking down the mountain he slipped and fell and sprained his knee.  We hope it is just sprained.

Devin's April Sayings

Devin: While waiting for the sacrament bread to get to us, "Can they bring us bread and cheese?"
Devin:
I picked him up from the sitter. She said he had a pretty good day only one time out. I told him good job for having a good day and then I asked, "Why did you go to timeout?" He replies, "I don't really know, it is tricky."
Devin: He said, "I want to go to the Moon." I said, "When you grow up you can be an astronaut and go to the moon." He replies, "Will you and Daddy come with me, with brother and sister?"

Devin:
I was cleaning Devin's ears. I showed him the bunch of wax on the Q-tip. He said, "That's yucky." I asked, "How do you know that?" He smiled and said, "I tasted it."

Devin:
He was fighting with his brother and I said, "If we can't get along we won't be going anywhere fun over spring break." Devin then says, "Are we going somewhere bad?"
Devin:
As we are leaving for the movies today he says, "Don't leave without me, I am a slow poke."
Devin:
"Mom, I want to watch Chicken Tales" (Chip and Dale)

Soccer

Olivia really loves playing soccer!  She played in the fall and she really wanted to play again in the spring.  We signed her up again for the city recreation team.  One of her best friends is also on the team.  She has a really good coach this season who know a lot about soccer.  He used to play and  has coached high school soccer.   They have practices a couple times a week and a weekly game.  She usually plays a defensive position and she is really good at it.   On Saturday's game, the coach had her playing offense for part of the game.  And She SCORED!  It was her first goal scored ever in a game!  Her friend picked her up and hugged her and she was screaming in excitement.   I really wish I would have taken my camera and captured the moment.

Raz-kids

Our district got Raz-Kids for the students K-3.  I asked a teacher at my school if she would add Devin to her class so he could read it at home.  She was willing to do that for me.   There is also a free I-pad app if you have an account on Raz-Kids.  Garrett has an account from his school and he loves reading the stories on the iPad.

Devin loves to be read to.  His favorite book right now is "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom"  Before we read it every night we go through the letters that are listed at the front.  He knows most of his letters.
He also like to be able to read along to the parts that he knows.  That is why I love Raz-Kids.  They have books on every level.  So I have Devin on a level A.  You can choose to read the book yourself, listen to the book, or have the computer record you reading the book.  to the book.

So this is Devin reading the book.  I know he adds extra words but it is just so cute to listen to him read.

Hope of America

Olivia participated in Hope of America last night. She has been working on learning the songs for awhile. She has really enjoyed it. And the the songs are really patriotic. She in in the top right at the beginning of the yellow in the top. There were 2500 fifth graders wearing red, white, blue or yellow to make the flag.
I enjoyed the show and the music.
What I didn't enjoy was our car breaking down right as we go to the Marriott Center.  We stopped at Wendy's to get dinner.  Then the window wouldn't roll up, then the clock stopped working, then the blinker wouldn't work.  Jere was putting his foot to the floor with the gas pedal and we were going 5 miles per hour.   We got to a parking lot but there were no available parking spots so Jere had no choice but  to park it in the a no parking zone.  As soon as it was parked the car died and wouldn't start again.  We had to call a tow truck and have it towed.  Jenn was with us so she called Chema to see if he would be able to help us out and pick up after the show.   He picked us up and took us home.  We didn't get home until after 10.

Today we are a car short! So I had to have a friend of mine who works for me to come and pick me up.  Jenn is going to come over after work and drive me back to Provo to a Mechanic shop if the car gets fixed.  I hope it doesn't cost too much or we are going to have to get a new car.  We were hoping to wait on a new car until after Jere's car is paid off but we will have to wait and see.

We got the car back on Wednesday.   It needed a new alternator.  It cost $512 dollars and it is now guaranteed for life with this mechanic shop.

Coloring on the wall

We tried to make a movie using a green screen.  When we were done we told them to decorate the wall.  It hung in our living room for about a week.  The kids and Jennifer all loved coloring on wall without getting in trouble.

Spring Break Day 6-Provo River

Our final day of Spring Break, we met Jennifer and her crew and we went canoeing on the Provo River.

The mouth of the river that joins Utah Lake.
It was about 2 miles down there and 2 miles back.  We were on our way back and we could see the dock.  Garrett and I were in a canoe together.  The current was stronger going back so the canoe was a little harder to control.   We got stuck at the bank.  Garrett was using his paddle to push against the bank and I was using my paddle to paddle backward to get us out.  Then the next thing we know the canoe tips over and Garrett and I are in the frigid river.   Garrett didn't go all the way under but I did.  We were so cold.  Garrett and I climbed up the bank, climbed through a fence and walked back to the car.  Jennifer, Chema, and Jeremy got the canoe and got it back to the dock only about 30 yards away.  (My leg didn't like being thrown into a river, climbing a hill, climbing through a fence) We are just glad the horse in the corral was a friendly one and didn't try to kick us or charge us.  Once we got to the car I stripped Garrett down and wrapped him a sweat shirt and a coat.  Then I got off my wet clothes and put on Jere's jacket and a wrapped a towel around my legs.  We got home and we both took a hot shower!  That is one way to end our spring break adventure.

I was proud of Garrett, he didn't panic or scream and he did just what we had talked about when we were talking about boat safety: he was wearing a life jacket, stayed calm, and got his way to shore quickly.

It was bound to happen. : )

Enjoying the tulips.

Carriage Ride.

Also for day five: I went out to lunch and got a pedicure with a my best friend, Marianne.

After all the day fun, Jere and I got a babysitter and we went saw a show "Golden Dragon Acrobats."

**Spring Break Day 4: It was really cold so we went Swimming at the Legacy Center but I didn't take my camera.

Spring Break Day 5-Neptune Park and Rockets

What better place to launch rockets then at Neptune Park. We got the park at 8:30 in the morning which is a perfect time because the park is not busy.   Each of the kids had a rocket and they got to push the button to launch it and then they got to run and try to find their rocket in the field. Luckily all rockets were retrieved safely.

3,2,1 Blast Off.

It is so exciting when it finally launches!

We just happened to be there the same time as the fire department training.  So if anything would have caught fire we would have been covered.

Spring Break Day 2: Antelope Island

We have lived in Utah for a long time and have never been to see the Great Salt Lake. Now we can say we have been to the Great Salt Lake.

Lots of buffalo.

Buffalo near the water.

Close up to the buffalo.  Glad they seemed pretty tame and none of them charged.

We went to the water to play in the sand and fly kites.
